The Semester Summarized in 21 Memes (Open Genre Submission)

For my Open Genre Project, I decided to make three memes based on each of the seven books we read this semester. The first meme for each book is based on the cover, and they're presented here in the order we read them in class. Let me know what you think, and enjoy!

  1. I really like these memes! They reflect the plotlines and characters in a comedic way. You highlight major concepts (moral codes, love, age, personality, etc.) from the books in a subtle and lighthearted manner.

  2. This has got to be one of the funniest and most creative open genre projects I have seen yet. You really demonstrated a detailed knowledge of the novels through a project that could easily have been done in a much less detailed fashion. These seemingly simple images have surprising depth.

  3. These are absolutely brilliant! Not only are they hilarious, but many of them are very concise and astute summaries of extremely deep themes. The one where the grumpy cat wakes up as vermin and then is late to work really brings to light the irony of Gregor Samsa's predicament, and the meme about Meursault being executed for not crying makes Camus's trial scene even more striking. All of them are clever and unique, and they made for an entertaining few minutes of reading.

  4. This is an awesome project. I like how you can tell which one belongs where even without the context of the previous memes. My personal favorite has got to be The Metamorphosis meme with the office guy (I'm really bad at describing them). It really captures the lack of appreciation that Gregor's family felt and hpw they could care less for Gregor. Similarly, the meme with Mrs. Dalloway and the champion baby also taps into my inner thoughts about Mrs. Dalloway and her so called "independence". Yeah, she 's rich and has a frivolous lifestyle but she never really goes out on her own. The sarcasm in this meme definitely sheds light on this and also made me laugh. Anyway, great memes and cool project!

  5. I really like how this project brings out a lot of the unspoken qualms we had with our authors and their characters, and although these memes are relatively short they have a lot of depth that is not immediately obvious.
